Influential Student Work

This video is quite slow and sad compared to how we would like ours to be, but we like the transition effects used. We also like how they wrote the name of the song in the sand on the beach and the setting of the roack to sing from.

We like the split screen technique and could use this in our own video to show the performance and the narrative simultaneously rather that using parallel editing.

this video is a good example of some of the shots of the couple we are going to use in the fairground, though this song and video has more of a depressing feel ours will be more upbeat and happy.

These are some of our influences for our music video. Although many of our ideas have come from scratch these have definately got similarities to our ideas that we may have been influnced by. Who Knew and Baby its you both feature fair grounds. We plan to use a fair ground setting for the final part of our video and these show some techniques and ideas that we plan to use. For instance filming at night makes the light more effective.
Hero by Enrique shows some good examples of both love scenes, driving scenes, and parallel editing between acting shots and performance shots of the artist.

Music Video Pitch

Starting shot is a close up on the artists hands playing the guitar. The camera then zooms out. He is sitting in the lounge of a couple house. They couple are having an argument/fight. Both obviously angry with each other. This scene continues throughout the four lines of the first verse.
As the second verse starts, we cut to outside the house. The couple come out through the front door still not in the best of moods with each other. Possibly rowing over maps/directions etc. They then get into a car and drive away. The artist will be sitting or standing in the garden or on the pavement.
As the bridge kicks in, the couple are still driving in the car. The man driving, the woman looking out of her window looking very depressed and fed up. We will drain the scene of colour as much as possible to emphasise the dullness of the mood. However as the chorus starts the colour will be restored and the sun will be shining. The couple's mood will perk up a bit. We will have moving shots of the couple driving along the sea front promenade.
As we move into the third verse we will contune with the narritive of the couple however focus a bit more on the artist singing, with shots of him on the beach and around the town.
For the final chorus, we will have the couple on the pier fair ground at sunset. Shots zoom from seeing the artist on the beach up to the pier to focus on the pair getting on/off rides. The main focus will be on the couple this time. But occasionally cut back to the singer throughout the chorus.
Finally the couple will come out of the fair ground and pass the artist apparently busking on the promenade. The man will stop rumage in his pocket and drop some spare change into the guitar case. He will then walk off whistleing the tune of the song - the irony being that the singer throught the song has been practically invisible to the couple and the song therefore has been non-diagetic.
We intend at some point in the video have the couple looking at a postcard or picture and then zoom in and it become the actual shot.

Narrative:

This track is 3.39 minutes long and is about two people tired of their boring lives and want something new, so they decide to get away. We have come up with many ideas for where to shoot the video such as the beach, the airport and a caravan. We decided the main setting would be Great Yarmouth beach. The opening scene will be a boring setting with the couple getting agitated with each other. The scene will then change to there choice of travel and the singer lipsynching. Then the couple goes to the beach and there are various shots of the arcade, pier etc.
